For starters, you can watch this video How to Perform Keyword Marketing Research. It’s a general look at what steps you must take in order to complete a thorough keyword analysis. Of course there is more to it, but start off by learning the basics. It’s critical to build that foundation before moving into the more technical phase of choosing effective keywords.
Mastering keywords means you need to bite the bullet and pay someone to teach you. If your articles aren’t ranking very high in 3-4 weeks, you’ve hired the wrong person. It’s that simple.
When I say MASTERING KEYWORDS, I mean this:
1. Knowing where to find them
2. Knowing how to use them
3. Knowing when to change them
4. Knowing their density measures
5. Knowing high traffic vs. high competition
6. Knowing how to tweak them weekly/monthly
If you have those 6 steps mastered, you are probably doing great on ehow. If not, you are probably out of whack on step #5. Most people use too highly competitive of a keyword to ever be able to rank for.
Now, let’s dive into the other components that turn a good ehow how to article into a great one:
1. Start by determining how big the audience is for your article. For example, is the keyword analysis showing 2,900 or 100,000 monthly queries. From here, you need to make a decision, competition vs. high traffic.
2. After choosing your keyword, craft the title. Remember to keep the keyword as close to the beginning of the designated ehow “how to” text box.
3. Then go ahead and “rehearse” your ehow how to article. Make sure it presents 5-8 clear and concise steps written in conjunction with the ehow guidelines.
NOTE: The steps should be in how to format and should contain your keywords in each step. Don’t just write information in paragraph form- guaranteed it will get deleted during the ehow review process. Here’s an example of a well written step, assuming your keyword is “Screen Resolution” :
“Adjust your screen resolution to 640×480.”
Here’s an example of an informative step that will get deleted:
“Screen resolution determines the number of pixels you are working with. It is a critical component to the image uploading process. If at any time you notice your screen resolution has changed, please visit your owners manual to learn the steps for restoring it.”
4. Utilize the resource box effectively. In this step, you should link to your other relevant content. For example, let’s say you wrote an article titled How to Bake Gingerbread Cookies. In the resources box, you DO NOT place a link to your website unless it’s exactly related. If you do, you will lose credibility from your readers.
5. When you’ve finished your article and it’s published, go ahead and send the link to your closest 20-30 friends. Ask them to read and review it. Every once in a while a friend may send the link to their network as well….depending on how helpful the content is!
6. Create 1-way incoming links to your article by visiting other blogs and forums. Simply leave a helpful comment, and your link will already be in the “website” text box.
WARNING: Never leave your link in the text box where the comment goes. This is spamming, and the blog owner will most likely delete your comment; and your credibility at the same time.
7. Create a blog for your top articles. This sounds complicated but I can assure you it’s simple; provided you take the right steps. To get started, study the following example where I’ve turned an ehow article into a full-blown marketing machine and lead generator:
